Former homeless mom: 'That can't be anyone else's reality' | Community Spirit
Title (Max 100 Charaters)
Hundreds of volunteers have come together in the month of April in Shoreline to pound nails and raise walls for mothers in need. Rain, or in some cases hail, has not stopped them from building this home of refuge.
Vision House is a non-profit organization that helps homeless men and women get back on their feet by providing them a safe place to live and community resources. Jacobs Well in Shoreline is being built for homeless mothers and their children and once finished there will be 20 apartment units and a resource center.
Ellen Rush, who is a volunteer and board member of Vision House, was once homeless herself. A victim of domestic violence, she and her children were kicked out of the house and were left with nowhere to go. It was only after a difficult search that she was able to find help through an organization like Vision House and get back on her feet. Now that she is standing strong she wants to give the opportunity she was given to other homeless mothers.
"And I felt that can't be anyone else’s reality," said Rush.
Rush and her son are currently helping to build Jacobs Well.
